After limited playing time at Montverde Academy (FL), Anfernee Simons is back. Last October, Simons left Edgewater( FL) High School to join the defending champion Montverde Eagles, but he soon realized that it wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Now, after one year at Montverde, Simons makes his long anticipated return to Edgewater, coming off a stellar performance on the Under Armour Circuit with Team Breakdown (FL).

Entering this summer, Simons was an afterthought on the recruiting trail, but that changed quickly. Through three stages in the Under Armour Association circuit, Simons led the UAA in scoring, en route to offers from Texas A&M, Memphis, and Louisville. Despite the new offers, a few schools seem to be leading the way in his recruitment. “I really like Texas.” explained the 6’3” combo guard. “I like Texas a lot and that’s the only real school that I like, besides Duke.”

Simons is still currently awaiting offers from both schools. Of the schools that Simons holds offers from, he named Virginia Tech, Louisville, and USF as the frontrunners. “ It’s based on communication.” said the Class of 2018 guard. “It’s based on whoever calls me the most, whoever checks up on me, and USF contacts me every day.”

Entering his junior year, the recruiting process has certainly heated up for Simons, however he has no plans to commit soon, as he has no timetable. As he continues to gain attention on the recruiting trail after a stellar UAA circuit, all eyes will be on him in his return to Edgewater. With a game that mirrors current NBA MVP, Stephen Curry, he has proved to be nearly unstoppable this summer. “I feel like a strong part of my game is getting to the basket, but I want to work on getting stronger, getting to the basket, and improving my jumpshot.”

Although Team Breakdown was unable to capture the UAA crown, Simons showed immense development in his jumpshot and his game overall.

Another cause for excitement is Simons ability to stay healthy this summer, as he says, “ I had a really bad knee for a long time.” he continued. “ It doesn’t hurt anymore though.”

If he can continue to stay healthy, there is no doubt that he will be able to finally make a name for himself in the Class of 2018. He may have been at one of the top basketball academies in the country last season, but returning to Edgewater is surely going to help Simons in the long run, allowing for more playing time. This year will be his chance to finally prove himself on the court.

He may only have a couple years to go in high school, but Anfernee Simons is just getting started. He is undoubtedly a player to keep on your radar in the 2018 class as he begins his career as an upperclassman. Playing against some of the top players in the country, Simons is now “Coming Home”.
