Micaela Wilson has always had dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. Growing up in Rayville, Louisiana, Wilson idolized Lebron James and Michael Jordan, but as she grew older, she came to the realization that one day she could be one of the greats. Now, at the conclusion of her Junior year of high school, Wilson is ready to take her game to the next level. “As a top prospect, nobody wants to see me make it, so I have to practice and earn my respect on the court.” explained the 6’1” Guard.

Born on October 24, 1998, Wilson has been a standout athlete her entire life, not only as a basketball player but also as an incredible track and field star. “I was four or five when I started playing basketball, and I also compete in track and field,” Wilson continued, "With track, I compete in the shot put, the discus, and the javelin. I was district MVP in the shot put, with a distance of 38.2 or something like that last year.”

Despite her success with track and field, Wilson has undoubtedly found her true niche on the basketball court. Ranked by ESPN as being the #7 prospect in the Class of 2017, Wilson has to deal with the constant scrutiny and pressure that comes with being a top-ranked player. "It’s pretty hard because as a high schooler, everybody knows my name. They’re trying to beat me. They keep improving, trying to beat a top-ranked player in the Class of 2017.” Wilson said.

As the competition continues to increase for Wilson, she has adapted her game in order to cement her status as a top recruit. On offense, Wilson is a threat to score every time she gets the ball. On defense, Wilson can usually match up with the opponent's best player. Despite her prowess on both ends of the court, an area where Wilson seeks improvement is her speed, saying, “I know that, in college, there will be a lot of players that are faster than I am. At the high school level, everyone is just average. I want to get my speed up because in college I’m going to have to play much faster, at a much faster pace.”

With one season left in her high school career, something that is definitely on Wilson’s mind is where she will play college basketball. Wilson already has offers from most of the top Division 1 schools in the country. The most incredible part? She has over 1500 letters from numerous different schools.

All of this attention would take its toll on most high school athletes, but Wilson has showcased her ability to handle everything thrown her way regarding the recruiting process. "It’s been fun and stressful,” Wilson said. "Sometimes, you want to hear from everybody and sometimes you don’t want to talk.” Helping her through the whole process has been Wilson’s mother, who is also her trainer. “We go to the gym almost every day to shoot, and even when I do have practice, she’s excited for me to improve my game.” said Wilson.

Not only has her mother also helped her improve her game, but she has also helped motivate Wilson towards becoming the nation’s best: “At one point in time, I wanted to quit. Everyone was hating, but then my mom took my to the gym. We practiced. We went to the track and the weight room every day. The practice doesn’t stop.”

With her unwillingness to quit and her desire for greatness, Micaela Wilson has elevated herself to the top of the 2017 Class. She is undeniably someone to keep an eye on in the Class of 2017, as she nears her college decision and the conclusion of her high school career. As Wilson said it best herself, “I just want to be great.”

And for Micaela Wilson, "Greatness Awaits".
