With NBA greats such as Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, and Pete Maravich, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has always been a hotbed for incredible basketball talent. Quade Green from Neumann-Goretti High School (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) may be the next great player to come from “The City of Brotherly Love”. Ranked by ESPN as being the #41 overall player in the 2017 Class, Green has caught the eye of scouts all over the country, resulting in over 25 scholarship offers from the likes of schools such as Maryland, Michigan State, Villanova, and numerous others. Despite only being a Junior, Green already knows what he wants in a school, saying,  “I’m looking at coaching, academics, playing time, and if they have my major,” Green said, “I want to commit next year, after my senior season.”

Quade Green started playing basketball when has was around seven or eight years old and his main influence, believe it or not, was Allen Iverson. Iverson played for the Philadelphia 76ers from 1996-2006 and is considered to be one of the greatest players in 76ers franchise history. Although Green was first introduced to the game watching Iverson, it isn’t Iverson that Green models his game after: “I model my game after Mike Bibby, a little bit of Chauncey Billups, and Kyle Lowry. I watch a lot of their clips, and I pick and choose parts of their game to use for myself.” revealed the high school Junior.

As Green continues to adapt and improve his game, he is quickly forming his own style of play. His ability to score the ball with ease, while also getting his teammates involved has proved to be one of Green’s greatest strengths, but that doesn’t stop him from working on his game, as he says, “The pressure motivates me to aim for perfection. I have to be right on point.”

Green’s game this season has nearly reached perfection. Leading his team to a stellar 20-2 record, MaxPreps has ranked Neumann-Goretti as the #20 in their Xcellent 25 National Boys Basketball Rankings. Green doesn’t let the ranking get to his head, because he is only focused on one thing:  “We just want to win. We want to win a league title and a state title.” he said.

The way that Green and his teammates have played this season indicates that they could compete, not only for the Pennsylvania state championship but maybe even a national championship. Ending the season with a 15 game winning streak, they have cemented their status as a national powerhouse heading into the postseason.

Green’s success this year can largely be attributed to his work with his AAU team, We R1 last summer. Teaming up with Trevon Duval, Green and Duval formed one of the deadliest duo’s in the nation, but even after an extremely successful season, Green decided to move on from We R1.  “I’m changing teams to join the Nike Circuit, the EYBL. If you want to be the best, you have to play in the best circuit. That’s how I look at it.” Recently, Green decided to join PSA Cardinals to continue his AAU career.

After deciding where he will play AAU basketball, he will now have to decide where he wants to attend college before graduating in 2017. While it can be overwhelming to deal with the pressures of the recruiting process, Green is sure to consult his family about his decision, saying, “They’ve been telling me to take my time, don’t rush it, and find out where I really want to go.”

As Quade Green looks to lead Neumann-Goretti High School to a national championship, all the while navigating the recruiting process, he has left no doubt that he is one of the most skilled prospects in the 2017 class. It will be fun to see how his career pans out as he progresses through his high school career and towards college. It is clear that Green is motivated by one thing: “Coming from Philly, I want to get out of here, so I’m gonna do what I have to do.”
