After committing to Georgetown University in August of 2015, Saint Anthony’s senior point guard, Jagan Mosely has one clear goal in mind: “This year I want to lead my team to a T of C Championship. I don’t feel as if I’ve accomplished anything big yet because I haven’t won a State championship at St. Anthony’s.” Last year, St. Anthony’s(Jersey,NJ) finished the season with an impressive 23-5 record, but were unable to accomplish their ultimate goal of winning a T of C championship, with a heartbreaking loss to Roselle Catholic. This year, with the stress of recruiting out of the way, Mosely is primed to lead his team to the championship.
Although he doesn’t think he’s accomplished anything big yet, the 16 schools that offered Mosely scholarships would beg to differ. He may be a standout on the court, but his ability doesn’t end there. Mosley held offers from Brown, Columbia, and Harvard, but ultimately decided to commit to Georgetown University. “[Georgetown has] balance between high level academics and high level basketball. The perfect balance.” While many prospects see the recruiting process as a burden, Mosely was very prepared for what was ahead of him. “My older brother Chedi went through it two years ago, so he kind of helped me out and told me to take it as slow as I want it because it’s my recruiting process.”, remarked Mosely on how his family helped him through the process.
Mosely's success in the classroom is not a surprise to people who know him. While he may be an incredible basketball player, school always comes first. During his junior year, Mosely had an impressive 4.2 GPA, which was the highest mark in his class at St. Anthony's high school. "My mom was always on top of me for my schoolwork so it's become second nature for me to put my schoolwork before basketball.” His ability to thrive on the basketball court, while also maintaining tremendous grades is uncanny and should help him when he has to face the challenges of being a student-athlete at a top academic university.
Mosely begins his college career at Georgetown in 2016 and there is no doubt that he will be ready. As a top recruit in the class of 2016 and an incredible student at St. Anthony’s High School, Mosely has the skill set to be a star player at the next level. "At Georgetown, I just want to earn my minutes and my play time and be the best I can be under Coach Thompson." Mosely has a tremendous chance to be the next star for Georgetown and is undoubtedly someone for fans to look out for at the next level.
