Bol Bol may only be a sophomore in high school, but he already has some giant shoes to fill. Bol is the son of Manute Bol, the tallest player in NBA history who stood at an incredible 7’7” and it is already starting to look as if his son will follow the same path. Bol Bol is currently 6’11” and still growing, but it is not his height that catches your attention most. With his 16th birthday approaching, his skillset is already far more developed than those of other athletes his age. With offers from St. John’s, New Mexico State, and Creighton, Bol isn’t your average high school sophomore, but that doesn’t stop him from fitting in; “I don’t try to act different. I participate in the activities that everyone else is doing. I try to fit in,” explained Bol.
Born in the Sudan, Bol has long felt a connection with the country. His father, Manute Bol, was a great ambassador for the nation of Sudan. He frequently visited the country and even established the Ring True Foundation. The main purpose of the foundation was to continue fundraising for Sudanese refugees. Although Bol was only ten years old when his father passed away, he still has a clear idea of all that his father did for the nation of Sudan, saying, “I think that it is a really good thing, to help all those people the way he did. My family views me as like my dad and that responsibility is on me. If I make it where I want to go then I will also do what he did.”
Despite the attention surrounding him, Bol makes sure to concentrate and block out the outside pressures. With three years of high school remaining, Bol has clear goals in mind: “[For high school] I want to get invited to all the big events and try to win state my next three years. [Past high school] I definitely want to play Division 1 basketball and even extend my basketball career beyond that.” Bol is already well on track to achieve these goals if he continues to dominate on the court. Not only does he succeed at his high school, Bishop Miege(Olathe, Kansas), but he also has been a star with his AAU team, KC Run GMC. “They help me improve because we practice and do workouts very often. Also, they have a really good coaching staff.” Bol said with excitement.
Bol has always aimed to duplicate the impact his father had on the game of basketball and the Nation of Sudan. Now is his chance. With the season coming up, Bol should be a commanding force at Bishop Miege High School. If he can maintain this tremendous level of play, then he will undeniably be one of the best players in the class of 2018, but Bol only has one main goal in mind; “I just want to make my family proud and make my dad proud.”
