As the Class of 2017 kick off their senior year, star shooting guard, Jarrett Culver, from Coronado (TX) High School is primed for a breakout season. With offers falling into the double digits, Culver hopes to conclude his recruitment this fall and spend his closing season solely focused on his game. “I probably want to commit before school ball,” he says. “’I’m still looking at everybody and letting everybody have an opportunity, before I cut down my list and everything.” After an impressive summer showing with Nike Pro Skills, schools have been working tirelessly to land the four-star guard and the interest should only grow this season.

Coming from Texas, Culver has to compete against some of the top talent in the nation, but due to the fact that he has been playing for most of his life, there is no pressure involved. “It’s always been a dream to play college ball and to go out and play at a D1 level,” he explains. “I just take it in, try to stay humble.”

Of course, his great play has resulted in plenty of scholarship offers, from the likes of Texas, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Illinois, and many more. As he nears a decision, Culver has already taken three official visits to Texas, Texas Tech, and Louisiana Tech. He spoke on his visit to Texas: “I’m getting to know the staff and everybody there at Texas. The visits are just to see who I like best. I liked it really well, but I’m still looking.”

It is clear that Culver is taking the process seriously and meticulously looking at each school. This should be no surprise as Culver’s detail-oriented mentality translates into his play on the court. The 6’5”, 185lb guard is a fan of former NBA sixth man of the year Jamal Crawford, as he says, “I admire the way he plays. Scoring and getting people involved is one of my strengths, but I need to work on my defense and running the court better.”

While he still has work to do, his clear dedication to his craft has been remarkable, leading to his rating as a three-star recruit by many recruiting services including 247Sports and ESPN. His experience with his AAU team, Nike Pro Skills cannot be overlooked, as they have had a clear impact on his success. “Some of the coaches played at the top level, so they know a lot about basketball,” he says. “On the circuit, you play against some of the top players in the country, guys who will be in the NBA one day. I learn a lot.”

Jarrett Culver has made a name for himself on the Nike EYBL circuit, and placed himself in the national spotlight through his constant dedication and practice. He may not be a five-star recruit, but he is certainly a player to keep an eye on in the Class of 2017, as he sets his sights on a college decision, as he says for himself, “I just love the game and have a passion for it. I’m just trying to make it for my family and make sure that one day, they will be good financially.”
