Nazreon “Naz” Reid was perhaps the most dominant player on this year’s Under Armour circuit. Playing with 16U Sports U, Reid was a force to be reckoned with, winning this year's UAA Finals. With schools such as Kansas, Louisville, and Maryland extending offers, it is clear that Reid will have his pick of schools when his decision comes.  “I’ll probably commit later next year, after the season.” he continued. “Everybody’s been recruiting hard, so I just stay positive, stay on my one’s and two’s of that nature, and just play basketball.”

That has been something that Reid has been doing since his childhood days in his hometown Roselle, New Jersey. However, it wasn’t until he was around the age of 14 that he started playing basketball. “[Starting late], it was hard, but you do what you gotta do to be the best.” explained the 6’9” Power forward.

Since he started playing, his stock has soared. Ranked by ESPN as being the #4 player in the Class of 2018, there is no debating on whether he is at the top of his class. Reid, along with Sports U was able to cement that status when they won the UAA Finals earlier this week.  “We just want to win another final.” said the two-time defending champion, Reid. “Being able to play with other great players like Jahvon [Quinerly],  Louis [King], and Luther [Muhammed] has definitely helped me.”

As an incoming junior, the recruiting process has really begun to heat up for Reid. Back in May, Reid named Kentucky, Syracuse, St. John’s, and North Carolina as the frontrunners in his recruitment, and was slated to perform well for the rest of the summer. However, earlier this week, Reid tweaked his left leg and missed a few days. Now, he is ready to return from injury and perform to his best ability. “What we go through is tough, but we get through it.” explained the junior from Roselle Catholic (NJ) High School.

So far, Reid has already drawn comparisons to players such as Karl Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, with a solid outside game, along with his devastating play in the paint. Despite his success, Reid still looks to improve, saying, “I want to work on my shooting, but so far it’s gotten a lot better.”

Even with his success on the court, Reid still makes sure to leave time to be a typical teenager. Although most of his time consists of staying in the gym, at 16 years old, he still has fun, saying, “I like to go out, go to the beach, and do stuff like that.”

As Nazreon Reid captures another UAA title, he continues to rise through the ranks of the 2018 class, cementing his status as a dominant force. While he is clearly a top player in his class, there is only one thing that motivates him: “My family. What we go through is tough, but we get through it. I just try my hardest for my family.”
