"I just try to go out and every time I play, I work my hardest. If I have a bad game, it happens to everyone. I don't try to put too much pressure on it." Said Canyon Crest Academy's(San Diego, California) 2014-15 Player of the Year, Madeline Gotta. The Captain of the Soccer Team, Senior, Madeline Gotta, is already making a name for herself in the world of high school soccer and hopes to continue that success at the next level after committing to the University of Gonzaga in this past year.
After an incredible season last year in which Gotta averaged an impressive 1.5 points per game, while also scoring a team leading nine goals in only 15 games, Gotta decided to commit to the University of Gonzaga. When asked about her decision to commit to Gonzaga, Gotta said, "I loved the coaching staff and they had really nice facilities. It's a great university and when I met the team, they had the winning mentality that I was looking for."
Gotta shouldn't have any trouble adapting when she takes her game to the next level after her senior season. Gotta first started playing soccer at the age of six and has continued to work hard ever since, "I think my passion for the game is my biggest strength along with my heart that I play with." Said Gotta, describing her greatest strengths as a soccer player.
A winning mentality is definitely something that Gotta has developed. Growing up around her three brothers, Gotta has always been destined to be a great athlete. "I always watched my brothers, growing up and succeeding in sports. They've always worked really hard and inspired me to do the same with my game."
There is no doubt that she has been able to succeed. At only 18 years old, Gotta, is already well accomplished on and off the field. With a 3.9 GPA in the 2014-2015 School year, Gotta was named to San Diego's Girl's Soccer All Academic team. She is also a defender with the San Diego Surf. When asked about how playing with the San Diego Surf helped improve her game, Gotta responded, "[The San Diego] Surf has helped because of the great coaches that they have. They always put us up against the best competition possible to develop us as players."
With the stress of recruiting process out of the way, Gotta has a legitimate shot to have her best season yet. With one more year left in high school, Madeline Gotta will certainly be a name to look out for in the class of 2016.
