There’s only one way to describe Jaelen Gill’s style as a running back: fearless. At 6’0”, 172 lbs, Gill isn’t the most imposing player on the football field, but when he gets the ball in his hands, there is no stopping him. “I’ll lower my shoulder with anyone,” Gill said. “I’m not scared at all.”

As a sophomore, Gill is already being compared to NFL greats such as Eddie George and Tony Dorsett, and with nearly 20 scholarship offers already in hand, it is clear that Gill is no fluke.

Gill has always been a top-notch competitor, however, it may come as a surprise to some, that baseball, not football, was how he first became aware of his athletic talent. “Baseball is our main family sport,” explained Gill. “I still play and have a future in baseball.” While Gill has always been passionate about baseball, it’s his skill on the football field that sets him apart from the rest of his class.

Leaving defenders in the dust, Gill has shown flashes of greatness in his first two years at Westerville South High School (Westerville,OH), leading to scholarship offers from Notre Dame, USC, and perhaps most intriguing, Ohio State. With a couple years remaining in Gill’s high school career, some schools have already made a strong impact. “In no particular order, the front runners are Ohio State, Michigan State, Tennessee, and UCLA right now.” the athlete said.

Those frontrunners shouldn’t turn off other schools -- Gill mentioned that he would like to receive offers from Clemson, Florida State, Oregon, and Alabama in the future. “I’m looking for a school, regardless of coaching changes. Just a place that I could see myself living at for up to five years,” said the high school sophomore. “I’m looking for good academics and a school that I can visit home from without a problem.”

As the offers continue to pile in, it will be interesting to follow Gill throughout this complex recruiting process. After initially planning to commit after his junior season, Gill now says that he may wait until his senior year.

As a two-sport athlete and a highly recruited football prospect, Gill’s dedication to his education is something to marvel at. “I want to graduate from college. I’m still deciding on what I want to major in -- either want a business, communications, or broadcasting,” Gill said, “I want to graduate from college, then hopefully make it to the NFL.”

Between baseball, football, and school, Gill certainly has his plate full, but it’s nothing that he can’t handle and he makes sure never to take anything for granted, saying, “ All of this recognition is definitely cool because sophomores usually don’t get scholarship offers. It’s not something that I want to get all big headed and cocky about,” Gill continued. “Sometimes, I’ll just think about how cool it actually is.”

There is clearly excitement surrounding the future of Jaelen Gill, and with a possible future as a dual-sport athlete, Gill is certainly a player to look out for in the Class of 2018. Gill’s fearless mentality is already proving to be one of the most promising prospects in all of high school football. Gill sums it up best by saying, “I’m fearless. I’m definitely not the biggest running back, but I don’t have a problem going up against a 5-star defensive end. I’m not scared at all.”
