Now that Ty-Shon Alexander has won a national championship with Oak Hill Academy, he is ready to do the same with the Creighton Bluejays. “I’m excited to play in the NCAA, go out there and have fun.” said the Creighton commit. And after an Under Armour Circuit that saw Alexander average 12.7 points per game, he has definitely captured the attention of scouts all across the country. Playing with Team Charlotte (NC), was able to lead the team to the best regular-season record on the circuit, before falling in the final four to Splash City (CA). Despite coming short of a title, Tyshon Alexander was able to separate himself as one of the nation’s best.

Taught the game by his uncle at the age of three, it is clear that family has had a major impact on his rise through the ranks of the 2017 class. “ My main influence was my uncle. He used to bully me around when I was younger.” Alexander continued. “He would toughen me and he was probably my biggest influence, so far.”

The toughness that Alexander developed when he was younger is apparent in his game today. Standing at 6’4”, Alexander is slightly smaller than most shooting guards, which requires him to play a more aggressive game to adapt to his defenders. It hasn’t been a problem for the guard from Concord, NC, as he has not only been a dominant player with Team Charlotte but also with his high school, the prestigious Oak Hill Academy (VA). Last season with Oak Hill, Alexander averaged 13.8 points per game as a junior and led them to a Dicks National Championship title. “ It was fun, playing at Madison Square and getting to hold that heavy trophy.” said the 6’4”, 180lb shooting guard. “We ended up winning it this year and it was a lot of fun.”

Playing alongside fellow elite prospects such as Matt Coleman, Lindell Wigginton, and Devontae Shuler, Alexander was able to continue the storied history of Steve Smith’s Oak Hill squad. Now, with his senior year awaiting, Alexander is ready to show what kind of player the Creighton Blue Jays will see when he graduates after next year. When Alexander committed to Creighton in October of last year, it was surprising to some, but after landing another four-star commit in Mitchell Ballock, the Blue Jays are already forming one of the top recruiting classes in 2017. “They really fit my game,” says Alexander. “ I really like the area around Creighton’s campus. It’s really quiet, nothing but basketball.”

Although he may be playing at one of the most prestigious basketball schools in the country at Oak Hill, Alexander’s life is far from “nothing, but basketball”. Throughout his high school career, the Oak Hill guard has had to overcome many challenges at home, as he says, “I’m just getting my mind straight. I’ve had a lot of family problems, but I’ve been fighting it out to get my family straight.” explained Alexander. “I’m motivated by my grandma and my family. They tell me every day, whether I’m working out or shooting, to play like it’s a game situation.”

He may still have a year remaining until his conclusion of his high school career, but Tyshon Alexander has already accomplished plenty at Oak Hill Academy and with Team Charlotte. He isn’t somebody you will want to lose track of as he attempts to repeat as National Champions with Oak Hill and as he continues his career with the Creighton Blue Jays. Proving himself among the nation’s best, Tyshon Alexander is focused on “Nothing but Basketball”.
